Our district convenes several advisory committees to focus on data, analyze issues, and make recommendations to the superintendent and school board. Citizens interested in sitting on one of our advisory committees must meet the criteria set out in school board regulations and submit an application (link below).

Participation depends on selection by each committee. Selection criteria are based on state or federal guidelines requirements and committee work. The following advisory committees are seeking citizen members, with nominations beginning July 1, 2022.


Vocational and Technical Training Advisory Committee (CTE)

The purpose of the CTE Advisory Board is to advise, assist and provide support and advocate for high quality programs that prepare students for a successful transition to further education and careers.

School Health Advisory Board (SHAB)

The purpose of SHAB is to ensure the health and well-being of the school community. SHAB will make recommendations and support policy development as needed.

Calendar of meetings The committee meets the Tuesday before scheduled school board meetings from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Local Gifted Education Advisory Committee

The purpose of the Local Gifted Education Advisory Committee is 1) to annually review the local plan for the education of gifted students, including revisions, and 2) to determine how well the previous year’s plan has been implemented. This advisory committee is made up of parents, school staff and other community members to reflect the ethnic and geographic makeup of the city’s different boroughs.

Special Education Advisory Committee (CCES)

The purpose of the SEAC is to advise the Department of Exceptional Learning and the School Board on various issues relating to students with disabilities. Membership of this committee includes parents of children with disabilities, people with disabilities, community representatives and a teacher representative to reflect a wide variety of disabilities and the wide geographic makeup of the city’s different boroughs. School employees and school board members act as consultants to UVAE.

Calendar of meetings The committee generally meets on the second Tuesday of each month with four (4) general meetings and 6 to 8 business meetings. Final dates, times and locations are being determined.

Completed applications must be delivered to the Registrar of the Commission no later than 4:00 p.m. on May 2, 2022.
