CLC Learn and Earn Program Awards Scholarships – Brainerd Dispatch

BRAINERD — Central Lakes College announced the success of its Learn and Earn pilot program, with the awarding of three scholarships in conjunction with Grand View Lodge, Spa & Golf Resort.

Scholarship recipients include: Taylor Hayford, accountant; James Gedde, Associate of Arts; and Zachary Nelson, Business Transfer Journey.

In its first semester, the Learn and Earn program benefits both CLC students and local businesses. Students apply for open positions with a local company that focuses on student career paths and, if employed, are eligible to receive a scholarship. In addition to receiving a scholarship from the respective companies, the student also gains work experience, as well as gainful employment during their academic program at CLC. In addition, students receive specialized academic and professional coaching services at CLC.

“The college and foundation benefit from relationships with businesses in the community to leverage resources and services for our students,” CLC Foundation Director Kate Adornetto said in a press release. “We have had several businesses supporting the Learn and Earn concept and I am confident that we will continue to build strong community partnerships for our students.

The program also helps local businesses recruit CLC students to become new employees in their organization while in college.

“We need people, and what better resource than our closest community college, Central Lakes College. This program gives us the opportunity to find qualified employees, while helping them pursue their professional career dreams,” said Merrick Dresnin, Chief Human Resources Officer of Grand View, in a press release. “Learning and earning is a win-win-win. It’s great for Grand View Lodge Spa & Golf Resort, great for CLC, and fantastic for the brightest students in our community!

The Taylor Hayford scholarship recipient said, “The Learn and Earn scholarships help me learn to balance my responsibilities, while meeting new people.

“It’s a great opportunity,” said recipient Nelson. “You get a good job that pays decently and get a scholarship on top of that!”

Central Lakes College will open the Learn and Earn application on May 1 for fall placement.
