PSD PRESS RELEASE: COVID-19 UPDATE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY

HONOLULU – The Hawaii Community Correctional Center (HCCC) has received test results from 44 inmates. Of these, four were positive and 40 were negative. There were 16 results from HCCC staff reported, of which one was positive and 15 were negative. There has also been a recovery of HCCC personnel.

Waiawa Correctional Institution reports one positive inmate case. The male inmate was tested at an outside medical appointment and the rapid test came back positive for COVID. The establishment adopted its pandemic protocol to place the prison population in quarantine as a precautionary measure. The Department of Health and the Hawaii National Guard administered tests at the facility. So far, 178 negative inmate test results and three negative staff results have been received.

COVID-19 testing is ongoing statewide at all facilities. The latest test updates received for other installations are as follows:

Oahu Community Correctional Center – 58 negative inmate test results.

Halawa Correctional Institution – 11 negative inmate test results. A staff takeover. HCF is free from all active cases of COVID-19.

Women’s Community Correctional Center – 1 negative inmate test result.
