The San Jose Fire Department (SJFD) is pleased to announce the grand opening of the new Fire Station 37.
Located on Lincoln Avenue, Station 37 opened May 10, 2022. The new station serves the southern area of the Willow Glen community and the northern area of the Cambrian community. The thoughtful and strategic location of this new fire station will strengthen SJFD’s emergency response capabilities throughout the city and improve the response time performance of adjacent fire stations 6, 9, 13 and 26.
The new building is a two-story, 8,100-square-foot fire hall that contains two apparatus bays, separate offices for the crew and captain, an open galley, a dining and living room plan, a exercise room and five two-bed dorms with private washrooms.
The building was designed for energy savings with numerous presence sensors. This is the second facility for the City of San José that has been designed and built adopting the city’s new Net Zero Carbon (ZNC) standards. This new building eliminates the use of natural gas, and all heating and air conditioning systems as well as the water heater and stove are energy efficient electrical appliances.
In addition to the ZNC, this installation has 82 photovoltaic panels, on the roof and the structure of the car park, generating a total of 25 kW of solar energy. The exterior architecture enriches the area and the red tower and four-part doors signify the presence of the fire station to the community.
Fire Station 37 was built with Disaster Preparedness, Public Safety and Infrastructure Bond (Measure T) funds approved by voters in 2018. The building was designed by IBI-Group Architects and their sub – contractors. It was built by Gonsalves & Stronck Construction Company as general contractor. The project was completed on time and within the approved budget of $8.8 million.
The public and guests who cannot attend in person are invited to join the event via live stream on SJFD’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/SanJoseFD.
Ample parking is available at the Willow Glen Community Center parking lot located next to Station 37 at 2175 Lincoln Avenue.
