Public meetings this week for community wildfire protection plan

Organizers of the Routt County Wildfire Protection Plan Update are inviting residents to one of four public consultation meetings Monday, Nov. 14 through Thursday, Nov. 17.

To garner broad community input on wildfire protection values ​​throughout the county, the Office of Emergency Management and the Routt County Wildfire Mitigation Council are hosting town hall meetings with appetizers and drinks provided. Meetings are scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Hayden Center, Tuesday at North Routt Fire Station #2 near the Steamboat Lake State Park Visitor Center, Wednesday at the fire station Stagecoach and Thursday at the county board of commissioners meeting. room, 136 Sixth St. in downtown Steamboat Springs.

Everyone who attends an in-person meeting will be signed up for a drawing for a Stihl chainsaw that can be used to remove fire-risk trees. Meeting attendees may also be placed on a priority list to receive a free on-site assessment of the home ignition area by local fire experts in the spring.



Additionally, all county residents are encouraged to complete an online survey in November available at RouttWildfire.org.
