The AARP Foundation is looking for volunteers for the Tax-Aide service

The AARP Foundation has started recruiting volunteers for its Tax-Aide program, the largest volunteer-based tax preparation service in the country. Volunteers can register to help taxpayers in person or virtually, with a number of roles available.

In addition to the tax preparers, whom the program will train, Tax-Aide needs people who can provide technical and communications assistance, interpreters and program managers. Volunteers come from a variety of industries and range from retirees to university students. All levels and types of experience are welcome.

Tax-Aide provides free in-person and online tax preparation and assistance nationwide to low- to moderate-income taxpayers. Due to the complexity of the US tax code, many taxpayers overpay taxes or turn to paid tax services that they cannot afford. Some may forgo filing taxes and miss out on the credits and deductions they have earned because they are unable to pay for the assistance. Tax-Aide volunteers can help by providing needed services in communities where there is the greatest need.

The AARP Tax-Aide Foundation has grown since its inaugural team of just four volunteers in 1968, and has served more than 68 million taxpayers since its inception. The program has volunteers in each state who are typically over 30,000.
