The public is invited to discuss the Maine Shared Community Health Needs Assessment

PORTLAND, Maine – Stakeholders from across Maine are invited to share their priorities for community health needs with area health care organizations in a series of forums starting next week.

MaineHealth, Northern Light Health, Central Maine Healthcare, and MaineGeneral Health have partnered to create the Maine Shared Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) with additional support from the ME CDC. CHNA is a snapshot of issues impacting population and community health and is comprised of a series of County Health Profiles comprising 210 data points that describe health outcomes, health behaviors, l access and quality of health care, and the social, community and physical environments that affect our health. The community forums, which take place between September and November, provide an opportunity for members of the public to share their views on the health needs that hospitals and public health agencies should focus on in the years to come. . Previous forums took place in 2018 and 2015.

“These forums open the door to discussions on how we can work together to make our communities the healthiest in America,” said Dora Anne Mills, MD, MPH, Health Improvement Manager at MaineHealth. “We want community members to see the data and share their views on what they see as our biggest health issues. The presentations will also address past priorities and the work we and our partners have done in relation to these identified areas of interest.

These forums are held virtually on Zoom. For more information or to reserve a place for the Greater Portland region forum on October 5 of 4-6 p.m.. or the Lake District region forum on October 26 of 4.30 p.m.-6.30 p.m.., visit: https://www.mainehealth.org/Healthy-Communities/Community-Health-Needs-Assessment

In addition to gathering feedback on local health priorities, the forum will also collect information on local resources that could help meet those priorities. Forums and other community feedback will serve as a guide to create hospital-specific health improvement plans in spring 2022.

For more information, including forum hours, county health profiles, and a portal for users to create their own data reports, visit the Maine Shared CHNA website: www.mainechna.org .
