Volunteers needed for Operation Christmas Tuesday in Mayfield, Graves Co.

MAYFIELD, Ky. (KFVS) – The City of Mayfield and County of Graves are requesting volunteers for the next Operation Christmas Tuesday event.

Operation Christmas Tuesday was set up to help bring joy to life for city and county residents who were affected by the catastrophic December 10 tornado.

The event, scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, needs approximately 150 volunteers.

Graves County says it would prefer volunteer groups.

To register, call the Graves County Emergency Line on Monday, December 20 at 270-727-5114 between 8 am and 4:30 pm You must have your own transportation for the event.

Those who register on Monday will be asked to arrive at a central meeting point in Mayfield around 9 a.m. CST on Tuesday, December 21, and be available to attend Operation Christmas until approximately 4 p.m. h 30 that day.

Volunteers will help to:

  • Distribution of food, water, gift cards and basic supplies to families.
  • Delivery of toys to all children in the Mayfield tornado area.

Graves County Executive Judge Jesse Perry said it was an effort to get everyone in the Christmas spirit during a difficult time.

“The tornado destroyed a lot of things, but it didn’t cancel Christmas,” Perry said. “We believe this will uplift our community with the love of Christmas, especially the children who have lost so much.”

Mayfield Mayor Kathy Stewart O’Nan said Operation Christmas on Tuesday should provide families with the things they need to spend the holidays.

“It’s a huge task, but I have no doubts that our community can do it,” said Mayor O’Nan. “Our families need this helping hand to make it through Christmas.”

Gift cards that can be used for furniture, supplies, food, or clothing are the most needed items.

Gift card donations can be mailed or shipped to the Graves County Health Department located at 416 Central Ave, Mayfield, KY 42066.

Monetary donations can be made by check to the Mayfield Graves County Tornado Relief Fund by sending a check c / o Independence Bank, PO Box 9, Fancy Farm, KY 42039, or online at https://gofund.me/3dabe793. Monetary donations can also be deposited at any Independence Bank location.

The Operation Christmas Tuesday event will also serve to provide families with enough food to spend the Christmas holidays, giving workers who provided supplies to tornado victims a chance to take a short break to spend time with their own families. .
